Meet the Artist
Western Woodcuts · Benbrook, Texas
Frank Yakimovicz creates original Western artworks engraved into solid hard maple. Each piece begins with a drawing and develops through a series of steps, from preparing the design to finishing the engraved panel.
His collection includes works such as Sunday Morning, Westward Bound and Riding High. The detailed linework of the original drawing becomes part of the finished woodcut.
The work continues after engraving, with sanding, sealing, gel stain and a Tung oil finish. Each piece is signed on the back and prepared for hanging.
The Creative Process
Follow Frank’s eight-step process, from the first sketch to the final finish. Choose a step or let the sequence guide you through.

The Finishing Details
The material, surface finish and details on the back are all part of the finished piece. Here is what you’ll find in a Western Woodcuts artwork.
Each artwork is engraved into solid hard maple, with the wood itself forming part of the finished piece.
Three coats of 100% pure Tung oil finish the surface, which is hand polished to a soft sheen.
Every finished artwork carries Frank’s signature on the back, keeping the front focused on the Western scene.
A keyhole hanging slot is included on the back so the artwork is prepared for wall display.
